MEURTRIERES announce full album “Ronde De Nuit”!

Lyon, France’s Meurtrières has not strayed far from their original goal of writing old-school, epic heavy metal with medieval overtones on their newest effort, “Ronde De Nuit” to be released on August 25.
If anything, the band (consisting of new vocalist Fiona, the guitar tandem of Flo Spector and Olivier, bassist Xavier and drummer Thomas) has taken what they started on their well-received 2020 self-titled EP and added new layers of complexity and depth. It is the natural transition for a band gaining more confidence in its songwriting abilities.

Meurtrières wasted little time introducing new vocalist Fiona — the band started playing live shows and writing new material with her right after the release of the EP, thus, giving Meurtrières ample time to hone its new material. And Fiona fits the band’s hard-charging, gallant music like a glove, coming away with a stronghold of fiery, epic choruses — all sung in the Meurtrières’ native tongue.

The lyrical subject matter on Ronde De Nuit still spans the medieval domain but with increased emphasis on paintings by Rembrandt (The Night Watch) and Johann Heinrich (Füssli). The band aimed to make the songs “pictorial,” reflecting imaginary portraits to draw in the listener. Except for “Aucun Homme, Aucun Dogme, Aucune Croix” (which is a known French medieval legend about a real woman), the songs on Ronde De Nuit are based on fantasy with a desired fate: All the depicted characters are doomed to tragedy, for in the world of Meurtrières, there is no such thing as crowned kings and queens and even glorious warriors.

Artwork by Ivan Brun rounds out a package that perfectly ties in thematically with the desperate and dark themes of the lyrics. It is a fitting component to an album laced with stunning visuals and epic, old-school metal of the highest order!

French Metallers TENTATION To Release ‘Le Berceau Des Dieux’ This Summer

French metallers TENTATION will release their first full-length album, “Le Berceau Des Dieux”, this summer via Gates Of Hell Records. Instruments were tracked this past February and March at Record It Studios in Perpignan, France, with additional refinements taking place at the band’s own studio, L’art ou Cochon. The album mixed and mastered at Moontower Studio in Barcelona, Spain by Javi Félez Rodriguez.
Referring to the cradle of ancient gods preparing for their return to earth, “Le Berceau Des Dieux” (English translation: “The Cradle Of The Gods”) delves deep into TENTATION’s interest in mythology and ancestral legends. It’s the perfect pairing to the band’s inspiring blend of classic metal sung entirely in their native tongue of French.

According to bassist Guillaume “Guix” Pastor, the writing process for TENTATION is usually generated by guitarist Guillaume Dousse, after which, the rest of the band starts to work on the structure. Vocalist Patrice “Darquos” Rôhée will then pick a theme for the lyrics, although on the new album, he had some help with some local friends. Pastor says in most cases, a TENTATION song will go through at least three revisions before the final product is ready.

“We think our new songs are more mature than before,” he notes. “We took a lot of pleasure in writing them and hope that heavy metal maniacs will appreciate what we created. We took the time to try to compose different atmospheres and do multiple tests of structures and riffs on several tracks. The composition work began a few months after the release of the split album [with IRON SLAUGHT] at the end of 2018.”

TENTATION formed in 2012. To date, the band has their debut, self-titled 2015 EP and a single and the aforementioned split released in 2018. Therefore, a full-length is long overdue. However, Pastor stresses that the making of “La Berceau Des Dieux” was a positive one largely because of producer Javi Félez Rodriguez and sound engineer Mathieu Lesieur.

“He is a very patient and talented guy, so recording at his studio was a real pleasure. With his experience we were able to move forward quickly. We took ten years because music is just a hobby and a passion for us. But, we are very happy and honored to work with Gates Of Hell Records. It’s for us a real recognition of our work. We worked hard for this album and hope it will receive a warm response from the metal scene!”

Le Dernier Rempart is split into two parts. Part one contains two songs dealing with Brittany history along with an instrumental traditional song. Part two is the aforementioned concept about a hero named Herzel, who, through trials and tribulations, eventually delivers Brittany the Sword of the Gods (“L’Epée des Dieux”). It is a concept that could only come from the unique region of Brittany.

Influenced by U.S. metal stalwarts Manilla Road, Warlord, Queensryche, Heir Apparent, Omen and Virgin Steele, as well as Celtic and French traditional music, Herzel was formed by Thomas Guillesser, who was then joined by drummer Ion Philippon, guitarist Kévin Le Vern and bassist Mordiern Le Dissez. Second guitarist Gurvan Lardeux was the last piece to the puzzle, and shortly thereafter, Herzel got to work on its debut demo, Unis dans la gloire, which was released in 2015.

LE DERNIER REMPART’s tracklist:

Maîtres de l’océan
La Flamme
Le Dernier Rempart

French Metallers TENTATION Sign With Gates Of Hell Records; New Album Due in 2021

Gates Of Hell Records is proud to announce the signing of French metallers TENTATION. The label will release the band’s first full-length album, “Le Berceau Des Dieux”, in 2021.

Formed in 2012 in the Occitanie region of France, TENTATION is a French metal tour-de-force — complete with lyrics sung solely in their native tongue. The band released their debut self-titled EP in 2015, then followed it with the “Bruixes / Shaman” single in 2018. The same year, TENTATION teamed up with IRON SLAUGHT for the “- 665 – Les hordes métalliques” split.

The members of TENTATION have been in touch with Cruz Del Sur Music / Gates of Hell Records since March 2016, shortly after the release of their self-titled EP. A deal was discussed but was put on hold until this past July when the band sent some demos. After that, it didn’t take long for the two parties to agree to work together.

Comments bassist Guillaume “Guix” Pastor: “We had several proposals and our choice fell on Gates Of Hell because of the sincere passion that transpires from this label, distribution network and the quality of the bands present in its catalog, such as our French friends in HERZEL and MEURTRIÈRES.”

TENTATION (who is rounded out by vocalist Patrice “Darquos” Rôhée, guitarist Guillaume Dousse and drummer Laurent “Lole” Metivier) is currently putting the finishing touches on “Le Berceau Des Dieux”, which is translated as “The Cradle Of The Gods.” According to Pastor, the new album will be more “mature,” the direct result of TENTATION spending more time on the songs. The band will be hitting Moontower Studios in Barcelona, Spain next February with Javi Flz overseeing the sessions.

“After we released the split in 2018, we started to write some new songs, some of which, like “L’Exode” and “Le Couvent”, we played for the first time in Vouziers for the ‘Le Festival de Vouziers’ and in Paris for the release party of ADX’s new album, ‘Bestial’, says Pastor. “We had a very positive reaction to these songs — it let us know we were on the right path for completing the rest of the new album.”
